Honduras plans to convert 3,000 taxis to Autogas through national programme
Through the Honduran Institute of Land Transportation (IHTT), the Government announced a nationwide programme to convert taxis to Autogas. So far, 500 vehicles have been already adapted and the goal is to surpass the 3,000 units by the end of 2024.
This is an initiative of the President of the Republic, Xiomara Castro De Zelaya, and offers the free conversion of taxis, which takes only two hours, explained the Public Transportation Manager Ramón Ochoa. He also stressed that this transformation represents a 50% reduction in operating costs, which could mean a considerable increase in profits for both drivers and vehicle owners.
The programme will cover 20 cities where taxis operate legally and it was already implemented in La Ceiba, Choluteca, Olancho, San Lorenzo, Comayagua, La Paz and Siguatepeque.
According to the IHTT, this strategy is aligned with broader efforts to encourage the use of cleaner and more economical fuels in public mobility, thus supporting sustainability and economy in the transport sector in Honduras.
“If you have been thinking about converting your vehicle from gasoline to LPG, this is the best time to do it. The conversion is totally FREE with no costs or additional payments. Take advantage of this opportunity to increase your profits and reduce your operating costs, save on fuel, and also contribute to caring for the environment. With LPG gas, your taxi will be more efficient, ecological and profitable”, highlighted the IHTT on its social media.
