Italy: Autogas car sales gain momentum during the first half of 2024
According to data from the National Union of Foreign Vehicle Representatives (UNRAE), the number of motorists purchasing LPG-powered vehicles is growing.
UNRAE’s report revealed that between January and June 2024 there were 81,467 new registrations of LPG cars, 7,6% more than in the same period last year, with Autogas reaching a market share of 9,1%.
Among the most popular LPG-fuelled models are the Dacia Sandero, Dacia Duster, Renault Captur and Renault Clio.
In Italy, drivers buying or converting a car to LPG receive an incentive from the government. Buyers are granted a discount on the list price equal to:
- EUR 3,000 if they scrap a car up to a Euro 2 class.
- EUR 2,000 if they scrap a Euro 3 car.
- EUR 1,500 if they scrap a Euro 4 car.
The incentive is valid until 31 December 2024 or until the fund runs out - as of 31 July it amounts to just over EUR 117 million.
